A mother remembers

“It’s her birthday today. I haven’t even had the time to take a good look at her photograph or remember in peace the moments I spent with her,” said killed teenager Aarushi Talwar’s mother Nupur, in an interview to a television channel on Saturday.

Nupur says she cannot forget the gleam in Aarushi’s eyes as she prepared a long list of invitees to celebrate her 15th birthday.

“Initially, she had said that an elaborate affair would cost a lot but Rajesh (her father) said she could call as many people as she wanted,” said Nupur.

Nupur now recalls the last day in Aarushi’s life. She picked her up from school and they had lunch at home with Nupur’s sister-in-law.

“She had palak paneer for the first time in her life that day. Hemraj (the domestic help) pointed this out to me,” she said.

Aarushi enjoyed fast food, her mother added.

Nupur and Aarushi then went to meet their grandparents who live nearby, and returned home in the evening. The family had dinner together, said Nupur, and then gave Aarushi a surprise.

“We had bought a digital camera as her birthday present but I told Rajesh that we should give it to her that day so she could take some pictures. We entered her room holding the camera and she was very excited to see it,” she said.
