Techie, who murdered wife, apologises to parents in suicide note, hopes they will not be hounded by the police

Till death do us part:
Amit and Rinku
Amit Buddiraja, the Infosys software engineer who allegedly murdered his wife and hanged himself in Koramangala on Saturday, has left a note requesting the police not to ‘harass’ his parents, as they knew nothing about the events leading up to the tragedy.

Amit (30) was married to Rinku Sachdev (28) a year ago. He worked at Infosys for the past eight years, while Rinku worked with a multinational bank.

Inspector Nagraj, who is investigating the case, said when he spoke to Amit’s parents, who arrived from Delhi early this morning, he was told that the techie was an introvert. “Our son never discussed his marriage with us,” Amit’s father reportedly told Nagaraj.

The post-mortem will be conducted at St John’s Hospital today. Rinku’s cousins and uncle are also in the city. Her parents are expected to arrive from Muscat later today.

Quoting from Amit’s suicide note, police said Amit claimed he had no other choice but to hang himself. He requested the police not to harass his parents, as they knew nothing about his troubled marriage.

‘Forgive me’

Amit has also reportedly apologised to his parents for not fulfilling his responsibility as their son. He went on to explain that he had an unhappy marriage. He also mentioned that he had refused to give Rinku a divorce since he feared that she would file a dowry harassment case against him and his family.
Inspector Nagraj of Koramangala police station said they were waiting for Amit’s parents to arrive before investigating further.

Gruesome find

The murder and the suicide came to light when Rinku’s colleague Urmila tried to call her up as they had planned to watch the Hindi film Race on Sunday. As there was no response from Rinku, Urmila decided to go to her house. She found the door locked and contacted the house owner, who lived on the floor above.

When there was no response from the couple, the landlord called up the police, who used a duplicate key to open the door. They found Amit hanging in the living room, while Rinku was lying dead in the bedroom.

Fatal provocation

The police quoted from the suicide notes, which Amit had addressed to his parents and his friends. In the suicide note, they said Amit had alleged that Rinku was having an affair with a colleague, and would come late from office on the pretext of work. She had even sought a divorce but he had refused, the note said.

The couple had returned home after playing Holi with their friends on Friday. The whole of Saturday, they stayed indoors. Some time during this period, they reportedly had an argument, after which Amit smothered Rinku to death with a pillow.

The house owner said the couple fought frequently.
