Girl allegedly bundled friend into a van and drove him to a jungle for a shotgun wedding

A 20-year-old girl allegedly kidnapped a 26-year-old friend, forced him to marry her, and had locked herself inside a room with him.

Vijesh B K, a resident of Marathalli, hails from Sullia in coastal Karnataka and works for a private firm in Bangalore.

The diploma holder was staying with his brother and sister-in-law when Latha, who also hails from his hometown, came to stay with the family to pursue her studies. She lived with them for 10 months and then moved to another house.

Filmi style

On March 17, around 11.15 am, Vijesh left his house for work. On the way, a Tata Sumo intercepted his motorcycle near VIMS Hospital on Ring Road near Innovative Multiplex.

Three men got down and forced him into the vehicle and sped away. One man stayed back to fetch the motorcycle.

To his surprise Vijesh reportedly saw Latha in the Tata Sumo. The abductors gagged him and drove towards Panatthur forest range on the outskirts of the city.

Marry her or else…

After a two-hour drive, the vehicle stopped at an isolated place.

The gang reportedly told him to marry her. "They started beating me when I refused," Vijesh told the police.

The abductors allegedly threatened to kill him and dump his body in the forest if he refused to marry Latha.

Vijesh's complaint says the gang dragged him to an isolated temple and forced him to tie the taali around Latha's neck. "The gang garlanded us, and took photographs," he said.
The van soon drove towards Mysore Bank Circle and the gang took him to an advocate who asked him to sign a marriage declaration form.

"The gang clicked photos again and fixed them to some documents," he said.

Locked and shocked

The story did not end there. "The gang took us to a house in Varthur and locked the house from the outside after pushing me and Latha in," Vijesh told the police.

The following day, on March 18, the gang reappeared and reportedly let him out after giving him his bike keys.

Meanwhile, Vijesh brother, Brijesh had filed a missing complaint with the HAL police.

Vijesh who returned home narrated what had happened to his brother, who took him to the station and filed a complaint. Vijesh was admitted to hospital and treated for his injuries and shock.

HAL police, who have registered a case of abduction, have summoned Latha for questioning. "Preliminary investigations reveal that the girl is obsessed with Vijesh and so took the help of her relatives," inspector B K Umesh told MiD DAY.

Vijesh's elder brother Brijesh told MiD DAY he would withdraw the complaint once the police assured them that the marriage would not be considered valid.
